WINDOWS 10 to 11 TIPS FOR USERS

This guide provides simple UI and usability tweaks that end-users can make to Windows 11 in order to make it feel more like Windows 10.

1. Move Taskbar Icons to the Left

Windows 11 centers the taskbar by default, which feels unfamiliar to Windows 10 users.

Steps:

  1. Right-click the taskbar and choose Taskbar settings.
  2. Expand Taskbar behaviors.
  3. Set Taskbar alignment to Left.

2. Show All System Tray Icons

By default, system tray icons are hidden under a chevron (^).

Steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar.
  2. Expand Other system tray icons.
  3. Toggle “Always show all icons in the notification area” or select specific ones.

3. Set “This PC” as Default in File Explorer

File Explorer opens to Home view by default.

Steps:

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Click the “…” (ellipsis) > Options.
  3. Under “Open File Explorer to:”, choose This PC.

4. Simplify Alt+Tab Behavior

Alt+Tab includes Edge browser tabs by default.

Steps:

  1. Open Settings > System > Multitasking.
  2. Under Alt + Tab, select “Open windows only”.
